Meeting between State Minister for Foreign Affairs Tsuji and Deputy Minister Gonçalves of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique

On August 25, commencing at 9:42 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. TSUJI Kiyoto, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Manuel José Gonçalves, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Mozambique, during his visit to Japan to attend the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- At the outset, State Minister Tsuji welcomed the increasing exchanges between the two countries and stated that he hopes to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries. In response, Deputy Minister Gonçalves expressed his appreciation for Japan's support to Mozambique and said that he would like to deepen cooperation with Japan in various fields, including cooperation through the TICAD process.
- They confirmed that both countries will strengthen cooperation toward the early resumption of the LNG development project in Cabo Delgado Province, northern region of the country, and agreed to work together for stabilization of the province, including cooperation on police capacity development.
- In addition, State Minister Tsuji expressed his hope to contribute to the development of Mozambique and the solutions of problems through human resource development, including the “The Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship” which was decided to be implemented in this June, and Deputy Minister Gonçalves expressed his gratitude.
- They confirmed the further development of Japan-Mozambique relations towards TICAD 9 in the coming year.
