Japan-Côte d'Ivoire Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On August 25, commencing at 10:13 a.m. for approximately 25 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Kacou Houadja Léon Adom, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Ivorians Abroad of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire who is visiting Japan to participate in the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Kamikawa conveyed her appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by Côte d'Ivoire during her visit in April this year, and stated that she would like to further strengthen its cooperative relations with Côte d'Ivoire, which serves as a hub for Francophone West Africa and is an important partner for Japan. In response, Minister Adom expressed his gratitude for Japan’s cooperation to date and stated that bilateral relations are at a historic high, and expressed his expectations for further investment by Japan.
- Minister Kamikawa mentioned utilizing the officials in charge of cross-border economic affairs and the two ministers concurred on cooperating for the success of the Japan-Africa Public-Private Economic Forum to be held in Côte d'Ivoire in December, with the increase in investment from Japan in mind. The two ministers also concurred on further working together in wide-ranging areas, including strengthening regional connectivity through infrastructure development and the rule of law including strengthening local police training and capacity building in the criminal and judicial fields.
- The two ministers confirmed that they would further develop Japan-Côte d'Ivoire relations towards TICAD 9 in the coming year.
