Meeting between State Minister for Foreign Affairs TSUJI Kiyoto and Ms. Ahunna Eziakonwa-Onochie, Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Africa, United Nations Development Programme

On August 23, commencing at 11:35 a.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. TSUJI Kiyoto, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with Ms. Ahunna Eziakonwa-Onochie, Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Africa, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), visiting Japan to attend the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, State Minister Tsuji expressed his appreciation for UNDP’s longstanding contribution to the TICAD process as a co-organiser since the early days of TICAD. In response, Ms. Eziakonwa noted that TICAD is a very important opportunity to create multilateral partnerships with Africa.
  2. The two sides concurred that one of the key issues regarding Africa’s development focus is the human resource development including the next generation and UNDP plays an important role in this area.
  3. The two sides confirmed the further deepening of Japan-UNDP relations toward TICAD 9 next year.
