Japan-Lebanon Foreign Minister’s Telephone Talk

On August 22nd, commencing at 3: 45 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone meeting with H.E. Mr. Abdallah BouHabib, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants of the Lebanese Republic. The overview is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister Kamikawa stated that Japan is paying close attention to the situation in the Middle East with great interest and concern, and explained that it is important to avoid exchange of attacks and calm down the situation, and that Japan has been reaching out to all the parties concerned. Minister Kamikawa requested cooperation in protecting Japanese nationals in response to the change of the situation.
- In response, Minister BouHabib stated that the situation is notably intensifying tense and it is important to cooperate with Japan, as its partner, and he shares the concerns expressed by Minister Kamikawa. Minister BouHabib then explained the latest situation on the ground as well as Lebanese diplomatic efforts. Minister BouHabib also stated that Lebanon spares no effort expressed his willingness to cooperate in ensuring the safety of Japanese nationals.
- The two Ministers confirmed that the two countries will continue to work together in order to prevent further escalation.
