Japan-Iran Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On August 15th, commencing at 2:10 p.m. for 35 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.E. Dr. Ali BAGHERI KANI, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
- Minister Kamikawa, while expressing serious concern over the current deteriorating situation in the Middle East, stated that further escalation of the situation would not be in the interest of the region or the international community as a whole, and that every effort should be made to avoid further tensions. Minister Kamikawa also called on Iran to respond in a rational manner.
- Furthermore, Minister Kamikawa called on Iran to strongly urge restraint on other relevant entities on which it has influence.
- Minister Kamikawa requested for Iran’s support in securing the safety of Japanese nationals in Iran, in case there is an increased tension in the situation.
- Both sides affirmed the importance of peace and stability in the Middle East region and agreed to continue to maintain communication between Japan and Iran.
