Japan-Jordan Foreign Minister’s Telephone Talk

On August 8th, commencing at 18:00 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone meeting with H. E. Mr. Ayman SAFADI, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The overview is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister Kamikawa stated that Japan is paying close attention to the situation in the Middle East with great interest and concern, and explained that it is important to avoid exchange of attacks and calm down the situation, and that Japan has been working on all the parties concerned. Minister Kamikawa requested cooperation in protecting Japanese nationals in response to the change of the situation.
- In response, Minister Safadi stated that the situation is extremely tense and it is important to cooperate with Japan, a close and strong partner, and he shares the concerns expressed by Minister Kamikawa. Minister Safadi then explained the latest situation on the ground as well as Jordan’s diplomatic efforts. Minister Safadi also expressed his willingness to cooperate in ensuring the safety of Japanese nationals.
- The two Ministers confirmed that the two countries will continue to work together in order to prevent further escalation.
