Japan-India Director-General Level Consultations on Middle East

- On July 25, 2024, Japan-India Director-General Level Consultations on Middle East was held in New Delhi between Mr.ANDO Toshihide, Director-General of the Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau, and Dr. Suresh Kumar M., Joint Secretary (West Asia and North Africa), the Ministry of External Affairs of India. The Consultations serve as a framework for Director-Generals in charge of the region to exchange views on the recognition of the circumstances in the Middle East and North Africa as well as the policies of the respective governments vis-à-vis the region.
- During the Consultations this time, they discussed a wide range of topics regarding the Middle East and North Africa region, with a particular focus on the Israel-Palestine situation, but also including the circumstances surrounding Iran, Afghanistan, the Gulf States, Syria, Lybia and so on.
- The both sides shared the concern about the current situation in Gaza as well as the need for persistent diplomatic efforts with a view to releasing the hostages, improving the humanitarian conditions and quickly calming down the situation. The both sides also concurred to further cooperate with each other for the stabilization of the Middle East region.
