On July 9, in the presence of Mr. MATSUDA Kuninori, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Ukraine, H.E. Mr. Ihor KLYMENKO, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, and others, the Government of Japan provided four large demining machines to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as part of the unexploded ordnance and mine action in Ukraine.

  1. The removal of mines and unexploded ordnance is not only essential in ensuring the safety and security of residents, but is also a prerequisite for recovery and reconstruction that is indispensable for rebuilding livelihoods, agriculture, and industry. This provision is expected to have a ripple effect on various fields, such as restoring agricultural production capacity and logistics.
  2. Prior to this equipment provision, initial operational training program on the large demining machine was conducted in Japan for the SESU personnel. The large demining machines are still being manufactured, and further provision are planned by the end of this year. We will therefore continue to provide the SESU personnel with training on the operation and maintenance of large demining machines, thereby contributing to the capacity development of SESU’s equipment operation.
  3. Japan will continue to support and stand by the people of Ukraine who are facing hardship, in collaboration with the international community including the G7 members.
