Japan-ROK Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talks

On June 21, commencing at 12:05 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, (Japan time), Ms. Kamikawa Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, spoke over the phone with H.E. Cho Tae-yul, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. The summary of the telephone talks is as follows.

  1. Both Ministers shared the view on the current situation in North Korea, including the recent Russia-North Korea Summit Meeting. Minister Cho explained the ROK Government’s position, and Minister Kamikawa stressed that Japan is seriously concerned about the outcome of the Russia-North Korea Summit Meeting in terms of its impact on the regional security surrounding Japan.
  2. Both Ministers reaffirmed that they will continue to work closely together between Japan and the ROK, as well as among Japan, the ROK, and the United States including on dealing with North Korea.
