On June 18, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, attended the second meeting of the "Advisory Panel on Sustainability of the International Community" at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA).

  1. At the outset, Minister Kamikawa pointed out that the members raised important perspectives in considering the blueprint of an economy and society that would be able to achieve sustainable growth, and made an initial sketch of the framework for an approach to achieve simultaneously growth and sustainability at the first meeting. Minister Kamikawa also encouraged to have discussions in a creative manner, with a particular focus on Japan’s sustainable growth at the second meeting.

Mr. Katsuno, a member of the Advisory Panel, stated that, in the face of challenges such as the low birthrate and aging society, a sustainable growth model should be established by creating new value, restructuring social systems, and improving the quality of people's lives. Also he pointed out the importance of the social transformation with people’s empathy for innovation created by green transformation (GX) and digital transformation (DX) to achieve sustainable growth model. Ms. Suwa stated that Japan as a whole should promote efforts toward sustainability pointing out that the revitalization of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is essential for Japan's sustainable growth. Also she emphasized the importance of coexistence with mutual prosperity of both large and small companies.
  3. Followed by the above discussion, members spoke broadly about the visions of Japan's economy and society that would ensure its sustainable growth and the sustainability of the international community as a whole, leading to a free and vigorous discussion, including presentations by Mr. Katsuno and Ms. Suwa.
