Emergency Grant Aid in response to the Landslide in Papua New Guinea

On June 7, the Government of Japan decided to extend an Emergency Grant Aid of USD 2 million in response to the devastating damage caused by the landslide that struck the Province of Enga, the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, on May 24, 2024.
- This Emergency Grant Aid will allow the implementation of humanitarian assistance activities of USD 2 million through the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in areas such as Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), as well as shelter.
- The Government of Japan stands with the Government and people of Papua New Guinea, and will continue to work closely with the Government of Papua New Guinea for the recovery and reconstruction of the affected areas.

On May 24, 2024 (PGT), the large scale landslide struck Lagaip-Porgera District in the Province of Enga, the inland of Papua New Guinea, which caused a number of people buried alive, and approximately 8,000 people affected.
