Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) Ministerial

On June 6, the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) Ministerial and the Investor Forum were held in the Republic of Singapore. Mr. SAITO Ken, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and Mr. TSUJI Kiyoto, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended these meetings from Japan. The overview of the meetings is as follows:

  1. The IPEF Ministerial and the Investor Forum were attended by the representatives from the United States, Australia, Brunei, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, aside from Japan.
  2. The signing ceremony was held for the IPEF Clean Economy Agreement, the IPEF Fair Economy Agreement, and the IPEF Agreement, the negotiations of which were substantially concluded in San Francisco, the U.S., last November. In addition to these agreements, the current implementation status and future efforts on the IPEF Supply Chain Agreement, which entered into force this February, among other issues, were also discussed. State Minister Tsuji welcomed the signing of the agreements, and expressed his wish to cooperate for their early entry into force. He also emphasized Japan’s intention to reinforce cooperation to promote a fair economy under the IPFF and introduced Japan’s efforts in the respective areas of the agreements. A press statement was issued on the occasion of this meeting.
  3. In addition, the Investor Forum was held to promote business matching among private companies and institutional investors in order to attract investments in sustainable infrastructure and climate change-related technologies. The forum was attended by ministers from the IPEF partner countries, public lenders and government agencies, multilateral development banks, institutional investors, as well as private companies, and panel discussions were held among other events on the clean economy in the Indo-Pacific region.
  4. During his stay in Singapore, State Minister Tsuji held bilateral meetings with the representatives of the United States, Fiji, Indonesia, Brunei and New Zealand to discuss various issues related to the international economy as well as the Indo-Pacific region in addition to the IPEF, and confirmed that they will continue to work closely together.
