Holding of the 5th Japan-Arab Economic Forum

  1. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA), the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), and the League of Arab States, with the cooperation of relevant organizations including JETRO, will cohost the 5th Japan-Arab Economic Forum in Tokyo on Wednesday, July 10 and Thursday, July 11, 2024, to discuss ways to further strengthen economic ties between Japan and the Arab countries. The Forum will be hosted in Japan for the first time in 11 years, since 2013.

Under the Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) between Japan and the League of Arab States to advance cooperation between Japan and the Arab countries, the Japan-Arab Economic Forum was established as a framework for ministerial-level dialogue with the aim of strengthening economic relations between Japan and the Arab countries through cooperation in a wide range of areas, including trade, investment, energy, science and technology, and human resource development. This has been an opportunity for Japanese companies to expand their business. The Arab countries are currently addressing economic and industrial diversification, including digital and renewable energy, and further deepening economic ties between Japan and the Arab countries are expected. Through strengthening Japan's economic diplomacy, including its resource diplomacy towards the Arab region, this forum will contribute to enhancing Japan's outreach to the Arab region.
  3. The schedule and location of the Forum are as follows:
    1. Dates: July 10 and 11, 2024
    2. Location: Tokyo, including Grand Prince Hotel Shin Takanawa
    3. The Forum will consist of the Ministerial Conference (July 11) to discuss ways to strengthen economic ties between Japan and the Arab countries, including energy and digital sectors, and the Public-Private Economic and Business Conference (June 10) to promote business cooperation between Japan and the Arab countries with the attendance of government officials and businesspersons.
