Emergency Assistance to the Independent State of Papua New Guinea in Response to the Damages caused by the Landslide in Enga Province
Today, May 29, the Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency relief goods such as tents, blankets and others through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to Papua New Guinea in response to the damages caused by the landslide in the Province of Enga.
In light of the humanitarian perspective and the close relations between Japan and Papua New Guinea, Japan has decided to provide emergency assistance to Papua New Guinea to help people affected by the disaster. In addition, it is under coordination so as to provide immediate assistance for humanitarian needs through the International Organizations.
The Government of Japan stands with the Government and people of Papua New Guinea, and will work closely with the government of Papua New Guinea for the recovery and reconstruction in damaged areas, including additional assistances.

In May 24, 2024(PGT), the large scale landslide struck Lagaip-Porgera District in the Province of Enga, the inland of Papua New Guinea, which caused a number of households buried alive, and approximately 8,000 people evacuated.
