Appointment of Ms. Mari YAMASHITA, as next Deputy Head of Mission of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hudaydah Agreement (UNMHA)

- On May 23 (local time), H.E. Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations announced the appointment of Ms. Mari YAMASHITA as the Deputy Head of Mission of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hudaydah Agreement (UNMHA).
- Ms. YAMASHITA joined the United Nations in 1990. She assumed prominent positions including Head of the Political Affairs Office in the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN), Director of the United Nations Information Center in Tokyo and Deputy Director for Asia-Pacific, Departments for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations. Subsequently, she has been serving as Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, Director of the UN Office in Belgrade, United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) since 2020.
- The Government of Japan, in cooperation with Ms. Yamashita and relevant bodies of the United Nations as well as countries concerned, will continue to work actively to realize peace and stability in Yemen through providing necessary assistance and making diplomatic efforts.
