Courtesy Call on Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs, by Mr. Jason Matheny, President of RAND Corporation

On May 21, 2024, commencing at 2:15 pm, for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from Mr. Jason Matheny, President of RAND Corporation, during his visit to Japan. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows.
- At the outset, Foreign Minister Kamikawa welcomed President Matheny’s visit to Japan and appreciated the information and advice which have been provided by RAND Corporation on various occasions, including security and defense matters. Minister Kamikawa also stated that she will closely follow up, as Foreign Minister, on the efforts to strengthen security and defense cooperation concurred by the leaders of Japan and the U.S. during Prime Minister Kishida’s visit to the U.S., through the Japan-U.S. “2+2” and other means.
- In response, President Matheny expressed his appreciation for the cooperation between the Japanese government and RAND Corporation, and the two sides exchanged views on issues, such as Japan-U.S. security cooperation, regional affairs, and new areas including emerging technologies such as AI.
