Japan-Saudi Arabia Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On May 20th, commencing at 6:15 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H.H. Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Faisal expressed his regret on the postponement of H.R.H. Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s visit to Japan due to the health condition of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, King of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and his appreciation for Japan’s understanding. He also stated that he would like to coordinate with the Japanese side to realize the visit at an early timing and that he seeks to work closely with Minister Kamikawa toward stabilizing the situation in the region.
  2. In response, Minister Kamikawa expressed her sincere wishes for the early recovery of His Majesty King Salman and stated that Japan attaches great importance to its strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia and seeks to work closely between the two foreign ministers as the world is facing multiple crisis, including the situation in Gaza and Ukraine. Furthermore, Minister Kamikawa also expressed her hopes to work closely with Minister Faisal for the realization of the visit of H.R.H. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to Japan, which has been postponed, at an early timing.
