The Fourth Meeting of the East Micronesia Cable Project Executive Board

On May 14, Mr. Rokuichiro Michii, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Fiji, Permanent Representative of Japan to the Pacific Islands Forum, attended the Fourth Meeting of the East Micronesia Cable Project Executive Board to discuss and confirm the progress of the project, which is a collaborative assistance by Japan, the United States and Australia announced in December 2021.

  1. At this meeting, representatives from Japan, Australia, the United States, Kiribati, Nauru, and the Federated States of Micronesia confirmed that progress had been made since the previous meeting of the project executive board held in October last year, including the manufacturing of the cable and the bidding for the aboveground works.
  2. Japan will continue to work closely with each country for the steady implementation of this project, which will provide faster, higher quality, more reliable and secure communications to more than 100,000 people in three countries in the Pacific region.
