Japan-Bahrain Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On April 23rd, commencing at 4:30 p.m., for approximately 25 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan held a telephone talk with H.E. Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The overview is as follows:
- The two Ministers had a frank exchange of views on the situation in the Middle East. Minister Kamikawa expressed her deep concern about the current situation in the Middle East and stated that Japan condemns any action that could lead to the escalation of the situation and that Japan has strongly called on both Iran and Israel to exercise restraint. The two Ministers concurred to work closely together toward preventing the further deterioration of the situation.
- With regard to the situation in Gaza, Minister Kamikawa called for an immediate ceasefire so that a conducive environment for humanitarian assistance activities is ensured in a sustainable manner, and the release of the hostages is realized, and stated that Japan strongly hopes that this would lead to a sustainable ceasefire and stated that Japan would actively and persistently make diplomatic efforts. Furthermore, Minister Kamikawa pointed out the importance of a two-state solution and stated that Japan seeks to work closely with the Arab countries, including Bahrain, which holds the presidency of the Arab League this year. The two Ministers concurred to strengthen cooperation on this matter.
- In addition, the two Ministers exchanged views on various issues concerning maritime security, particularly the situation in the Red Sea, and concurred to strengthen cooperation in order to maintain and strengthen the "rule of law.”
- Furthermore, the two Ministers concurred to continue to work closely together in strengthening the bilateral relations between Japan and Bahrain and in addressing various issues of the international community.
