First Meeting of the Advisory Panel on Sustainability of the International Community (Results)

On April 22, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, attended the first meeting of the "Advisory Panel on Sustainability of the International Community" at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA).
- At the beginning, Minister Kamikawa pointed out that the international community is facing multiple and complex crises, as well as great difficulties in its efforts to ensure sustainability, and that Japan is strongly expected to lead the international community by reexamining approaches to achieve growth and sustainability simultaneously in a creative way, obtaining knowledge from a wide variety of stakeholders. Minister Kamikawa also stated that she would like to consider creatively how to ensure Japan's sustainable growth and the sustainability of the international community through free and vigorous discussion in this meeting, looking toward 2030 and beyond.
- Mr. Hiroi, a member of the Advisory Panel, made a presentation on scenario analysis of Japan's future in 2050 using AI and its policy implications based on his research, presenting it as an approach to discussing Japan's sustainable future. Additionally, Ms. Kondo, while introducing research outcomes to which she also contributed, stated that future generations are interested in the three elements of "physical, mental, and global health," "growth," and "connection," proposing the concept of a "Happy Economics" from the perspective of realizing these three elements simultaneously.
- In response, each participant spoke broadly about the visions of Japan's economy and society that would ensure its sustainable growth and the sustainability of the international community as a whole, leading to a free and vigorous discussion, including presentations by Mr. Hiroi and Ms. Kondo.
