Fifth Dialogue to Strengthen the Economic Relationship between Japan and Mercosur

  1. On April 8 (local time; on April 9 JST), the Fifth Dialogue to Strengthen the Economic Relationship between Japan and Mercosur was held in Asunción, Paraguay.
  2. From the Japanese side, Mr. NOGUCHI Yasushi, Director-General of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and others including members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries attended the dialogue. From the Mercosur side, Ambassador Wilma Patricia FRUTOS RUÍZ, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Paraguay, which is the chair of Mercosur during the first half of 2024, and representatives from Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil participated.
  3. In this dialogue, both sides exchanged information on the current situations of trade and investment between Japan and Mercosur, and also exchanged views on the cooperation in a wide range of areas between both sides with a view to further strengthening the strategic partnership between Japan and Mercosur in the future.
