Presentation of the Recommendation by the Japan Business Federation to Foreign Minister KAMIKAWA Yoko upon the 60th anniversary of Japan’s accession to the OECD

On March 15, commencing at 2 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Foreign Minister Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko received a courtesy call from Mr. INAGAKI Seiji, Chair of the Business and Industry Advisory Committee to the OECD (BIAC) Japan of the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren), and was presented with the recommendation. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows:

  1. At the beginning of the meeting, upon the 60th anniversary of Japan’s accession to the OECD, Chairman Inagaki presented Minister Kamikawa with the recommendation titled "Expectations of the OECD in an Increasingly Complex World," (English (PDF) Open a New Window / Summary in English (PDF) Open a New Window) compiled by BIAC Japan of Keidanren towards the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting in May, which will be chaired by Japan. He stated Keidanren’s expectation for the OECD’s role as well as for the Japanese government.
  2. In response, Minister Kamikawa stated that public-private partnership is crucial to explore a new frontier of the economic diplomacy and that she will make the utmost use of the recommendation. Minister Kamikawa also stated that the OECD is a valuable institution that contributes to the rule-making of countries based on abundant data and objective analysis. She also highlighted Japan’s intention to lead the discussion at the OECD to maintain and expand the rules-based free and fair economic order, leveraging on the strength of the OECD. Minister Kamikawa further stressed that the activities of the OECD contribute to the formation of a free and fair business foundation and that she wishes to continue to cooperate with Keidanren to identify the needs of the business sector.
