Courtesy call to present the proposal to Foreign Minister Kamikawa by the WPS Parliamentarians' Network Japan

On February 16, commencing at 4:10 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call by the WPS Parliamentarians' Network Japan to receive a proposal on WPS.

  1. Minister Kamikawa received a courtesy call from eight members of the WPS Parliamentarians' Network Japan. The members of WPS Parliamentarians' Network Japan presented comprehensive proposals on WPS in light of the domestic and international situation, including the devastation in Ukraine and the Middle East and the recent Noto Peninsula earthquake. They also requested steady implementation of the WPS agenda in conflict zones and refugee camps around the world, as well as in disaster-stricken areas in Japan.
  2. While expressing her gratitude for the proposal, Minister Kamikawa emphasized that, as the world faces multiple crises, women, children, and other vulnerable groups are the ones most affected by conflicts and disasters, and that WPS is indispensable in addressing these various issues. Minister Kamikawa also stated that to promote WPS, it is necessary for various actors to work together in an all-Japan manner, and that the role of the WPS Parliamentarians' Network Japan is also very important, and she looks forward to its continued activities. Next, she discussed the WPS Parliamentarians' Network Japan’s activities.
  3. Following the meeting, the WPS Parliamentarians' Network Japan members had a lively exchange of views on Japan's efforts regarding the WPS including the disaster area and various issues in the international community and confirmed that the government and the Diet members would continue to strengthen cooperation between the government and the Diet.
  4. In closing, Minister Kamikawa stated that this exchange of opinions was very meaningful in that she was able to obtain various opinions and suggestions, and that she would like to further promote the WPS hand in hand in the future.
