The 17th Japan-ROK Consultation on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Issues was held on February 16 in Tokyo. The holding of this Consultation follows the Consultation held in May last year

  1. The Japanese side was represented by Mr. KITAGAWA Katsuro, Ambassador, Director-General of Disarmament, Non-Proliferation and Science Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, while the ROK side was represented by Mr. Youn Jong Kwon, Director-General for Nonproliferation and Nuclear Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea.
  2. At the consultation, the two sides exchanged views on a wide range of current major international issues in the areas of arms control, disarmament, non-proliferation, and peaceful uses of nuclear energy, and concurred to continue consultations between the two countries in these areas. The two sides reaffirmed that Japan and the ROK will work more closely together to address North Korea’s nuclear and missile issues, among others.
