Japan-Palau Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On January 19, commencing at 5:30 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with Hon. Gustav AITARO, Minister of State of the Republic of Palau, who was visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Aitaro expressed his honor to see Minister Kamikawa for the first time and renewed condolences from the government and people of Palau on the Noto Peninsula Earthquake. Minister Kamikawa expressed her appreciation for his cordial messages of sympathy and stated that it is a great pleasure to exchange candid discussion in person with Minister Aitaro. Also, Minister Aitaro reiterated his understanding and trust on the safety of discharging ALPS treated water.
- The two ministers concurred on further promoting the bilateral relationship, seizing the opportunity of the 30th year of Japan-Palau diplomatic relationship this year, and closely working together for peace and stability in the Pacific Island countries region and international society.
- The two ministers exchanged views on situation in the Indo-Pacific region, including the Pacific Island countries, and agreed to cooperate towards the 10th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM 10) scheduled to be held this year.
