Meeting between State Minister for Foreign Affairs Tsuji and OECD Secretary-General Cormann

On January 11, commencing at 1:30 p.m., for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. TSUJI Kiyoto, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with Mr. Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, State Minister Tsuji welcomed Secretary-General Cormann's visit to Japan and expressed his gratitude for Secretary-General’s messages of sympathy regarding the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake and for useful recommendations in the OECD Economic Survey of Japan.
- State Minister Tsuji also stated that Japan intends to discuss the OECD's outreach to Southeast Asia, digital areas including generative AI and other relevant agendas, when Japan chairs OECD Ministerial Council Meeting to be held on May 2 and 3. State Minister Tsuji added that he expects to continue working with Secretary-General Cormann to make the MCM fruitful.
- Secretary-General Cormann expressed his desire to further strengthen cooperation between Japan and the OECD, taking the opportunity of the 60th anniversary of Japan's accession to the OECD and Japan’s Chairmanship. Secretary-General Cormann also stated that he would like to make more strategic and full use of the OECD Tokyo Centre to strengthen OECD's outreach to the Southeast Asia.
