Courtesy Call on Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Kamikawa by U.S. NSC Indo-Pacific Coordinator Campbell

On December 18th, commencing at 9:50 a.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from the Honorable Kurt Campbell, National Security Council Coordinator for the Indo-Pacific of the United States of America. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. Minister Kamikawa stated that she highly appreciates the contributions of Coordinator Campbell in advancing the U.S. engagement to the Indo-Pacific region and to strengthen its core, the Japan-U.S. relations. Minister Kamikawa also offered her congratulations on the nomination of Coordinator Campbell for Deputy Secretary of State, and she stated her expectations on his continued efforts to further solidify Japan-U.S. relations.
  2. Minister Kamikawa also stated that the security environment of the Indo-Pacific region is becoming increasingly severe, including the ballistic missile launches by North Korea this morning and last night. Minister Kamikawa stated that she would like to continue coordination with the U.S. in responses to North Korea including the abductions issue.
  3. Coordinator Campbell stated that he would like to continue to work to further strengthen Japan-U.S. relations in order to uphold the free and open international order based on the rule of law. Coordinator Campbell also stated that he would like to maintain and strengthen the coordination between Japan and the U.S. as well as among Japan, the U.S. and the ROK in responses to North Korea.
