Courtesy Call on Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs KOMURA by Mr. Om Prakash, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan

On December 11, commencing at 3:30 p.m for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. KOMURA Masahiro, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from the members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ), including Mr. Om Prakash, President of the ACCJ, for the "Diet Doorknock." The overview of the courtesy call is as follows.

  1. While explaining the ACCJ's recommendations to Parliamentary Vice-Minister Komura, President Prakash stated that the ACCJ wishes to promote cooperation in the areas such as economic security, digital, tourism, and reinforcement of defence capabilities.
  2. In response, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Komura noted that Japan has been the world's largest investor in the U.S. for four consecutive years and that the U.S. is also the largest direct investor in Japan, and stated that the member companies of the ACCJ serve as a foundation for the robust Japan-U.S. relations. He also introduced the outcomes of the Japan-U.S. Economic Policy Consultative Committee (the Economic "2+2") and the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), both of which were held in San Francisco in November this year, as well as the efforts to strengthen the Japan-U.S. economic relationship. And then he stated that voice from the business community has been very beneficial and that he hopes to continue to work with them.
