Japan-Palestine Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Talk

On October13th, commencing at 18:00 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone talk with H. E. Dr. Riad Malki, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Palestine, to discuss the situation surrounding Palestine and Israel. The overview is as follows:

  1. Foreign Minister Kamikawa stated that she is paying close attention to the situation in the Gaza Strip, Palestine, with great concern. She stated that Japan unequivocally condemns the terror attacks by Hamas and other Palestinian militants, especially attacks on, and kidnapping of, innocent civilians, which should not be justified on any grounds. Minister Kamikawa called on Minister Malki to work on the parties concerned in order for the early de-escalation of the situation. In addition, Minister Kamikawa asked for support to secure the safety of Japanese nationals and the both ministers confirmed to cooperate to work together.
  2. Foreign Minister Malki explained the position of the Palestinian Authority in the wake of the attack and its response as well as the situation in the Gaza Strip. Minister Kamikawa and Minister Malki concurred on the necessity to improve humanitarian access.
  3. Minister Kamikawa and Minister Malki concurred on continuing to work together for the de-escalation of the situation from the viewpoint of regional stability.
