Courtesy Call on Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. FUKAZAWA Yoichi by H.E. Prof. Mohamed Belhocine, Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (ESTI) of the African Union Commission

On October 3, Mr. FUKAZAWA Yoichi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from H.E. Prof. Mohamed Belhocine, Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (ESTI) of the African Union Commission. The outline of the courtesy call is as follows.
- At the outset, Parliamentary Vice-Minister FUKAZAWA expressed his congratulations on the African Union (AU) for gaining a permanent membership of the G20 at the recent G20 Summit, and stated Japan wishes to strengthen relations with the AU in the international community as the G7 President and a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
- Parliamentary Vice-Minister FUKAZAWA also expressed high appreciation for the efforts that the AU moves forward under the Agenda 2063. Moreover, he mentioned about Japan’s contribution to human resource development under the AU’s Pan-African University (PAU) concept, and stated that Japan wishes to promote African development with approaches quintessentially Japanese, focusing on people.
- In response, H.E. Prof. Belhocine expressed his appreciation for Japan's longstanding commitment to human resource development in Africa, and stated that he wishes for Japan's human resource development, including for youth and women, in light of the AU's annual theme of education for the coming year. Finally, both sides confirmed that they will continue to cooperate in the upcoming TICAD process to promote Africa’s development.
