September 29, 2023
- The government of Japan has been advancing coordination with the Government of Germany toward the start of negotiations for a legal framework for facilitating joint activities between defense forces of both countries. To realize this framework as the Japan-Germany Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement (Japan-Germany ACSA), the two governments will commence formal negotiations for the conclusion of the agreement.
- Japan and Germany, as important partners sharing fundamental values of freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law, share the will to work toward the realization of a free and open Indo-Pacific and have been promoting cooperation in the fields of security and defense. Japan-Germany ACSA would serve as a basis for strengthening such cooperation institutionally and is expected not only to contribute to Japan's security, but also to help both Japan and Germany make a more active contribution to peace and security of the international community.
- The Government of Japan will work on the negotiations with the Government of Germany in order to realize an early conclusion.
