Commencement of negotiations on the Japan-Germany Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement

  1. The government of Japan has been advancing coordination with the Government of Germany toward the start of negotiations for a legal framework for facilitating joint activities between defense forces of both countries. To realize this framework as the Japan-Germany Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement (Japan-Germany ACSA), the two governments will commence formal negotiations for the conclusion of the agreement.
  2. Japan and Germany, as important partners sharing fundamental values of freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law, share the will to work toward the realization of a free and open Indo-Pacific and have been promoting cooperation in the fields of security and defense. Japan-Germany ACSA would serve as a basis for strengthening such cooperation institutionally and is expected not only to contribute to Japan's security, but also to help both Japan and Germany make a more active contribution to peace and security of the international community.
  3. The Government of Japan will work on the negotiations with the Government of Germany in order to realize an early conclusion.
