Emergency Grant Aid in response to the flood disaster in southern Ukraine

On June 20, the Government of Japan decided to extend Emergency Grant Aid of USD 5 million in response to the flood disaster in southern Ukraine.
- In response to the flood disaster that ensues ever since the collapse of the dam at the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant in southern Ukraine, the Government of Japan will implement emergency humanitarian assistance in such areas as foods, water and sanitation (WASH), and health through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
- The response to the incident was strongly requested by the Government of Ukraine, including President Zelenskyy, in light of its urgency. This Emergency Grant Aid embodies the emergency humanitarian assistance announced by Prime Minister Kishida to the President Zelenskyy, at the Japan-Ukraine Summit Meeting on June 9, and carries significant importance as part of Japan’s assistance to Ukraine.
- Japan will continue to demonstrate its leadership as G7 Presidency and to provide support for and stand by the people of Ukraine, in response to the needs in Ukraine.
