Japan-Solomon Islands Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On October 1, commencing at 11:00 a.m. for approximately 35 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with the Hon. Peter Shanel Agovaka, Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Solomon Islands, who is visiting Japan to attend the Solomon Islands National Day event of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister IWAYA welcomed the attendance of Minister Agovaka at the National Day event of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan on October 2, and expressed his hope that the Expo would help further develop bilateral relations between the two countries. Minister IWAYA also mentioned that Japan and Solomon Islands are precious friends connected with the Pacific Ocean and Japan places importance on its relationship of mutual trust with Solomon Islands. In addition, Minister IWAYA stated that Japan is committed to strengthening the kizuna, bond of trust, with Solomon Islands based on long-standing reliance and cooperation. On top of that, both Ministers concurred on further strengthening cooperation between Japan and Solomon Islands.
- Stating that Japan has been contributing to the sustainable development and improvement of quality of life in Solomon Islands through cooperation in a wide range of areas including fisheries, health and human development, Minister IWAYA asked for the continued mutual cooperation in ensuring the smooth implementation of the projects. In addition, Minister IWAYA stated that Japan will continue to support regional unity and to stride forward together with the Pacific Island countries including Solomon Islands. In response, Minister Agovaka expressed his appreciation to the Government and people of Japan for its cooperation.
