Foreign Minister Kamikawa’s Visit to the United States of America

Minister Kamikawa will visit San Francisco, U.S. from November 12th to 16th to attend the APEC Ministerial Meeting, the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) Ministerial Meeting, and the Japan-U.S. Economic Policy Consultative Committee Meeting (the Economic "2+2").

  1. At the APEC Ministerial Meeting, Minister Kamikawa plans to communicate Japan's position on key issues such as promoting free and open trade and investment, addressing global challenges, and promoting inclusive growth involving women and youth. She will also share her view that Russia's aggression against Ukraine has been affecting economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region and needs to be brought to an end as soon as possible.
  2. At the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) Ministerial, with the aim of achieving sustainable and inclusive economic growth in the Indo-Pacific region, Minister Kamikawa will participate in and make constructive contributions to high level discussions on Pillar 1 (Trade), Pillar 2 (Supply Chains), Pillar 3 (Clean Economy), and Pillar 4 (Fair Economy).
  3. At the Japan-U.S. Economic Policy Consultative Committee (Economic "2+2"), Minister Kamikawa intends to discuss diplomacy, security, and economy as one, and expand and deepen Japan-U.S. cooperation in the economic field, including achieving sustainable and inclusive economic growth in the Indo-Pacific region, maintaing and strengthening a free and open regional economic order, and cooperating in the field of economic security.

  1. Date: November 14th, 2023
  2. This is the second ministerial meeting, following the one held in July 2022. The Japan-U.S. Economic Policy Consultative Committee has held a wide range of high-level discussions from a strategic perspective on promoting various types of cooperation based on the U.S.-Japan Competitiveness and Resilience (CoRe) Partnership and ensuring a rules-based economic order in the Indo-Pacific region and the international community. Through this framework, we will discuss diplomacy, security and economy as one, and expand and deepen Japan-US cooperation in the economic field, including achieving sustainable and inclusive economic growth in the Indo-Pacific region, maintaining and strengthening a free and open regional economic order, and cooperating in the economic security field.

(Note) US-Japan Competitiveness and Resilience (CoRe) Partnership: The partnership is based on the joint statement issued at the Japan-U.S. Summit in April 2021, which confirmed that the two countries will promote cooperation in the common priority areas of competitiveness and innovation in digital and science and technology, as well as in addressing COVID-19, green growth and climate change. A "fact sheet" summarizing the progress of the partnership was issued at the Japan-U.S. Summit in May 2022.
