The 67th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency to be held in Vienna

  1. The 67th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will be held from September 25 to 29 in Vienna.
  2. Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Minister of State of Cabinet Office, and Mr. HIKIHARA Takeshi, Permanent Representative and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the International Organizations in Vienna, will attend the General Conference as representatives of the Government of Japan.
  3. During the General Conference, Minister TAKAICHI will make a statement mainly on Japan’s efforts about International Non-Proliferation regime, peaceful uses of nuclear energy, discharge of ALPS treated water into the sea. Mr. SAKAI Yasuyuki will also accompany with the delegation and explain Japan’s effort towards the decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station including the discharge of ALPS treated water into the sea and the progress of the reconstruction of Fukushima to the participating countries.
  4. The representatives of the Government of Japan will hold meetings with relevant countries and organizations on the nuclear issues including Japan’s work on the discharge of the ALPS treated water into the sea, cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, nuclear security, and nuclear safety.

The IAEA is an international organization (177 Member States – as of August 2023) which was established in July 1957 for the purpose of promoting peaceful uses of nuclear energy and application of safeguards to prevent the diversion of nuclear energy for military use.
