Video message by Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs, on the occasion of the establishment of the Global Coalition to Address the Synthetic Drug Threats
Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, delivered a video message (PDF) at the online ministerial meeting for the establishment of the Global Coalition to Address Synthetic Drug Threats hosted by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on 7 July 2023.
- At the outset, Minister Hayashi expressed his support for the establishment of the US-led global coalition. Sharing his concern for synthetic drugs that pose a significant threat to public health and global security, Minister Hayashi concurred that we all need to stay ahead of the rapidly evolving landscape of the world drug problem and draw up a multi-faceted strategy for drug supply and demand reduction.
- Furthermore, Minister Hayashi stressed the importance of facilitating cooperation not only between the police, customs and coast guard, but also with narcotics control agencies and research communities in order to enhance law enforcement agencies’ surveillance capabilities and swiftly respond to challenges caused by synthetic drugs.
- Finally, Minister Hayashi reiterated the importance of strengthening our collaboration towards practical and concrete action so as to combat this pressing issue.
