Japan-Jordan Foreign Ministers’ Video Conference

On December 23rd commencing at 6:50 PM for around 25 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a video conference with H. E. Mr. Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The overview is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Minister Hayashi stated that the cooperative relationship between Japan and Jordan is steadily progressing based on the strategic partnership, and expressed his hope to strengthen the relationship for further development. Minister Hayashi also reaffirmed Japan’s support for a two-state solution regarding the Middle East Peace. In response, Minister Safadi congratulated Minister Hayashi for being appointed as Minister for Foreign Affairs and appreciated Japan’s position and contribution regarding the Middle East Peace.
  2. The Ministers exchanged views on the bilateral relationship including economic cooperation, and Minister Hayashi informed that Japan decided to provide Jordan with up to approximately $100 million as the COVID-19 Crisis Response Emergency Support Loan, and with additional contribution through international organizations to support a large number of refugees hosted by Jordan. In response, Minister Safadi expressed his appreciation for Japan’s wide-ranging cooperation for Jordan.
  3. The Ministers confirmed to work together for the 10th NPT Review Conference to be held in New York in January 2022.
  4. The Ministers concurred that the two countries will continue the close cooperation with a view to further enhancing the bilateral relationship and stabilizing the region.
