Restoration of the relations among the Gulf countries
(Statement by Press Secretary YOSHIDA Tomoyuki)

  1. On Tuesday, January 5 (local time), the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit held in Saudi Arabia issued the Ula declaration and the Gulf countries agreed to restore to normal track and amity of the region. On Monday, January 4, Saudi Arabia and Qatar reopened their borders. The Government of Japan welcomes these positive developments and highly appreciates the mediation efforts by those including Kuwait and the United States for the settlement of the issue.
  2. The unity among the Gulf countries is important to ensure peace and stability in the Middle East. The Government of Japan hopes that the agreement will lead to further improvement of the relations among the countries concerned as well as to easing tensions and stabilization in the region.
  3. The Government of Japan will continue working to realize peace and stability in the Middle East in cooperation with the countries related.
