September 11, 2020

On the occasion of the visit to Singapore (August 12-14) by Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Japan and Singapore agreed to aim for starting the Business Track in September. Following subsequent consultations and arrangements, the foreign ministers of Japan and Singapore issued a joint press statement (PDF)Open a New Window on September 11, and the Embassy of Japan in Singapore will begin procedures for the use of the Business Track from September 18. The details will be available on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan’s website. Singapore will be the first country with which Japan is establishing the Business Track. This measure is aimed at resuming cross-border travel in a partial and phased manner, while also preventing infections from spreading once again. It is expected to mark an important step towards supporting economic recovery for Japan and Singapore.

This framework allows cross-border travelers to enter, exceptionally, Japan or its counterpart country/region. Furthermore, this framework enables limited business activities during the 14-day stay at home period (partially relaxes restrictions on such activities), immediately after arrival at those countries/regions or Japan, on condition that travelers accept additional quarantine measures such as submission of a “Schedule of Activities in Japan.” This framework is intended mainly for short-term business travelers.
