Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the Presidential Election in the Republic of Mali

Japan welcomes the fact that the presidential election took place in the Republic of Mali on July 28 in a peaceful manner with the participation of more than a half of eligible voters.
This election represents an important step towards restoration of constitutional order and establishment of peace and security in Mali. Japan expects that all parties concerned will continue to cooperate for the peaceful implementation of the election, and will continue to cooperate proactively for the establishment of democracy, peace and security in Mali.
