Statement by the Minister for Foreign Affairs on the Situation in Egypt

- Japan expresses strong concern over a large number of casualties resulting from the collisions between demonstrators and security forces in Egypt on July 26 and 27.
- Japan strongly urges all relevant parties to desist from acts of violence and behave with the greatest extent of self-restraint and responsibility.
- At the same time, Japan re-emphasizes the necessity of further efforts toward comprehensive reconciliation with the participation of all parties. This is important for Egypt to stabilize the situations and tackle its economic and social issues effectively.
- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also take necessary measures to ensure the safety of Japanese citizens and tourists present in the country.
