Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Kenta Wakabayashi’s Attendance at the Summit and the Ministerial Meetings of the Pacific Alliance

  1. On May 22 and 23 (local time), Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Kenta Wakabayashi attended the Summit and the Ministerial Meetings of the Pacific Alliance held in Cali, Colombia, on behalf of Prime Minister Mr. Shinzo Abe and Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Fumio Kishida.

At the Ministerial Meetings on May 22, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Wakabayashi stated that the Government of Japan is placing an emphasis on strengthening its relationship with the Pacific Alliance’s member countries, which adopt particularly open trade policies in the Latin America and the Caribbean region. He also mentioned areas of future cooperation with the Pacific Alliance.

Additionally, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Wakabayashi delivered a personal letter from Prime Minister Abe to Dr. Sebastián Piñera Echenique, President of the Republic of Chile, the former chair of the Pacific Alliance, and to Mr. Juan Manuel Santos Calderón, President of the Republic of Colombia, the next chair of the Pacific Alliance.
  4. Furthermore, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Wakabayashi exchanged opinions with Mr. Kelvin Thomson, Australian Parliamentary Secretary for Trade and Mr. Jesús Manuel Gracia Aldaz, Spanish Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Iberoamerica.
