The Agreement between the Parties in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela

- On October 17, 2023 (local time), the dialogue between the Venezuelan parties took place in Barbados, and the parties reached a political agreement toward the implementation of free and fair elections, including the presidential election in 2024. Japan welcomes the agreement as an important step toward restoring democracy in Venezuela following the agreement in the social area toward support for the Venezuelan people in the fields of education and health, which was signed on November 26, 2022, between the parties.
- Japan has strongly called for the implementation of free and fair elections with broad participation of the Venezuelan people for the early and peaceful restoration of democracy in Venezuela. We hope that this agreement will be implemented in a steady manner towards free and fair elections, including the 2024 presidential election.
- Japan also welcomes various measures announced by the international community to encourage the implementation of the agreements to improve the situation in Venezuela. Japan will continue its efforts to improve the socio-economic situation in Venezuela in cooperation with regional and international organizations as well as relevant countries.
