Visit of H.E. Mr. Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to Japan

From July 4 to 7, H.E. Mr. Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will make a working visit to Japan as a guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
- During his stay in Japan, he will have meetings with senior officials, including Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and visit TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station and other sites.
- Japan attaches importance to the work of the IAEA, which plays a significant role in promoting nuclear non-proliferation and the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. Japan has been assisting Director General Grossi to the fullest extent possible in discharging his reponsibilities and will continue to strengthen the activities of the IAEA in close cooperation with other IAEA member States.
- Director General Grossi’s visit to Japan is expected to contribute to the further strengthening of the relationship between Japan and the IAEA.

The IAEA is an international organization established in July 1957 that implements safeguards for the purposes of promoting the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and preventing the diversion of nuclear energy for military purposes. It currently has 176 Member States (as of January 2023).
