Working Level Meeting of the Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD)

  1. On July 18, 2024, Japan co-hosted with the Palestinian Authority the Working-level Online Meeting of the Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD).
  2. The meeting was held with the presence of Mr. ANDO Toshihide, Director-General of the Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, H.E. Dr. Wael Zakout, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation of Palestine, H.E. Dr. Bassel Al Kafarna, Minister of State for Emergency Relif of Palestine, H.E Dr Samah Hamad, Minister of Social Development of Palestine, and the representatives of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia (headed by H.E. Mr. MEAS Kim Heng, Secretary of State, Ministry of Foreign Affirs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia), Indonesia, Republic of Korea, Lao PDR, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Viet Nam, World Bank, UNDP, OCHA, UNRWA, and Islamic Development Bank.
  3. During the meeting, the participants discussed the mid- to long-term issues such as early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, reform of the Palestinian Authority, and the fiscal challenges, and concurred on the importance of coordination and cooperation through CEAPAD while Palestine needs more assistance following the situation in Gaza since last October. At the end of the meeting, the Members of CEAPAD welcomed Cambodia and Lao PDR as new official members of CEAPAD.

CEAPAD is a regional conference initiated by Japan in 2013 to support the Palestinian state-building efforts by drawing on resources, knowledge, and experiences of economic development of the East Asian countries.
