Entry into Force of the Japan-EU Agreement on bilateral agreements between Japan and the Member States of the EU for air services

- On September 18, regarding the Agreement between the European Union and Japan on certain provisions of agreements between Member States of the European Union and Japan for air services (Japan-EU Agreement on bilateral agreements between Japan and the Member States of the EU for air services) (signed on February 20, 2023), Japan received from the EU the notification confirming that its internal procedures necessary for the entry into force of the Agreement have been completed. Thus, all the necessary procedures for the entry into force of this Agreement have been completed. This Agreement, therefore, will enter into force on October 1, 2023.
- This Agreement aims to establish a foundation for stable development of aviation relations with the EU by aligning the content of the existing bilateral agreements between Japan and the Member States of the EU for air services with the current status of Japan-EU aviation relations. In addition, together with the Japan-EU Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement that entered into force in 2021, this Agreement aims to further strengthen Japan-EU cooperation in the aviation field.
