On June 16, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call by Prof. MATSUMOTO Yoichiro, Science and Technology Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Dr. KOTANI Motoko, Science and Technology Co-Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs.

  1. Prof. MATSUMOTO and Dr. KOTANI presented the recommendations "Strengthening the Foundation of Science and Technology Capabilities" prepared by the Advisory Board for Promoting Science and Technology Diplomacy (chaired by Prof. MATSUMOTO and co-chaired by Dr. KOTANI). The recommendations summarize the necessary efforts and actions to strengthen the foundation of Japan's science and technology capabilities, which is important in promoting science and technology diplomacy.
  2. Mr. HAYASHI expressed his gratitude to the Advisors’ efforts to compiling the recommendations. Also, he stated that, taking into consideration these recommendations, he would advance cooperation with relevant ministries and agencies, and reinforce the structure and functions of diplomatic missions abroad to further utilize them, in order to create a favorable environment for international brain circulation. In addition, they exchanged views on various topics related to Science and Technology Diplomacy.
