  1. On April 23 (Japan time). Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan visited USS Abraham Lincoln, which is being deployed in sea near Japan, together with the Honorable Rahm Emanuel, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America.
  2. During the visit, Minister Hayashi and the officials of the U.S. Navy including Vice Admiral Karl Thomas (Commander, 7th Fleet) affirmed the necessity of further strengthening the deterrence and response capabilities of the Japan-U.S. Alliance as well as the importance of close continued cooperation toward achieving a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific", in light of the increasingly severe security environment in this region.
  3. Furthermore, Minister Hayashi thanked the crews of USS Abraham Lincoln for their contribution to peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, and encouraged them to continue their dedicated efforts to strengthen Japan-U.S. Alliance including through enhancing cooperation and interoperability with Japan Self-Defense Forces.
