Video Teleconference Meeting between Foreign Minister HAYASHI and H.E. Ambassador Katherine Tai, United States Trade Representative

On December 22, commencing at 8:00 a.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a video teleconference meeting with H.E. Ambassador Katherine Tai, United States Trade Representative. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- The video conference was held in response to the request from the U.S. side to follow up the meeting in November during Ambassador Tai’s visit to Japan.
- At the meeting, both sides confirmed that discussions at the WTO should not be set back due to the postponement of MC 12, and that they would advance negotiations to achieve concrete results.
- Both sides also decided to resolve challenges and to further develop discussions on Japan-U.S. economic relationship and that Japan and the United States will work closely to maintain and develop the international economic order of the Indo-Pacific region.
- At the end of the meeting, both sides confirmed that Japan and the United States will continue to communicate on these issues, including at the working level.
