Current Security Situation in Afghanistan
(Statement by Press Secretary YOSHIDA Tomoyuki)

1. Japan strongly condemns a series of recent terrorist attacks in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, including the attack which targeted Kabul University on November 2. Japan expresses its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families for the loss of their loved ones, and prays for the swift recovery of those who were injured.

2. Japan is deeply concerned about the escalation of violence in parts of Afghanistan, as Afghanistan peace negotiations have started in September. Japan calls on all the concerned parties for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire.

3. Japan expresses its strong solidarity with the Government and the people of Afghanistan. Japan, in close collaboration with the international community, will continue to cooperate for peace and stability in Afghanistan.
